Safe Zone

A quick look at what Safe Zone is and resources on campus and off campus that can be used.
What is a Safe Zone?

It is a community of people who will be understanding, supportive, and trustworthy if LGBTQIA+ individuals need help, advice, or just someone to talk to. Not only can a person be a Safe Space, but it may also be a physical space such as a:

Designated Office Space

Physical Classroom

Online Classroom

Entire Campus

*Safe Zone certified members attest that they will not tolerate homophobic, heterosexist, cisgenderism comments and actions but will address them in an educational and informative manner.*

Why should you be a part of Safe Zone?

1. LGBTQIA+ individuals sometimes question whether they will feel safe, welcomed, or supported in an environment. Displaying Safe Zone stickers is a form of visible allyship - it communicates to others the commitment you're making to creating LGBTQIA+ inclusive environments.

2. Providing any kind of visible allyship is important because it allows others to speak authentically and confidently without fear of reprisal due to their identity.

3. It allows them to live their authentic truth and inspires self-confidence.

You never know whose life you may be able to help or change.
