3D Printing

3D printing available to all library users.

Who Can Print

3D printing is available to all library users, including community members, students, and LSC employees.

Cost of 3D Printing

It is $0.10 cents per gram of filament with a $1.00 minimum per print. Multiple prints might be possible at the same time. 

Paying for 3D Printing

  • Printing for personal use - Cash only, payable at the Circulation Desk. 
  • Printing for official LSC projects by Faculty/Staff - contact Tracy.L.Williams@lonestar.edu

3D Print Options

Colors Currently Available

  • Grey, Purple, Yellow, Off-White, White, Black, Orange, Blue, Green, Red. 
  • Single-color prints only at this time

Sizes Currently Available

  • Max size: 29.5 Length x 19.5 Width x 16.5 Height in centimeters (9,492 Cubic Centimeters)
  • Max size: 11.6 Length x 7.6 Width x 6.5 Height in inches (573 Cubic Inches)

Time to Print

  • 2-5 working days
  • Time will vary according to object size and quantity.

  • Not able to create new 3D designs/files
  • Not able to edit existing 3D files

Disclaimer for 3D Printing

Use: The 3D printer may be used only for lawful purposes. The library will not print material that is:

  • Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well‐being of others. 
  • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the college environment.
  • In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.

The library reserves the right to:

  • Refuse any 3D print request. Printing is entirely at the discretion of the library and the library reserves the ability to deny service for any reason.
  • Use staff discretion to organize the print queue for overall efficient output.
  • Photograph all 3D objects printed. Images may be used for reporting, assessment, and marketing.
  • Gather feedback from users.
  • Implement additional requirements not listed here.
