Faculty Guide to Globalizing the Curriculum

TIEC conducts a variety of training programs for international professionals in education and business. These programs are custom designed to meet the specialized needs of any group of participants.

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) sponsors International Faculty Development Seminars for faculty at US academic institutions to focus on international education in various disciplines, such as arts and humanities, business, and health. Ping Faculty Development Fellowships are available to IFDS participants whose institutions cannot fully pay for their seminar registrations. CIEE also organizes an annual conference either in the US or abroad for faculty interested in global education.

Offers faculty support in a variety of disciplines which ranges from funding for conferences to language programs in Germany.

Offers professional graduate, certificate, and short-term programs with an international focus in a variety of disciplines, and a wide variety of language learning options.

Global health research funding opportunities from NIH and other organizations.

"MERLOT is a free and open peer reviewed collection of online teaching and learning materials and faculty-developed services contributed and used by an international education community" (MERLOT website). Search keywords such as "international education college*" or "global education college*," or specific geographic areas or languages, for lists of free educational materials, personal collections of website links compiled by MERLOT members about various topics, and peer reviews of MERLOT and other educational resources.

Lists AAC&U initiatives, publications, meetings and institutes, podcasts, and summer institutes for global learning, among other resources.

Describes several means of professional development for global education related to Asia, including: university, college, and community college courses and study centers; conferences; travel opportunities; school visits; and language study. Offers links to representative websites for each.

This Hawaii-based institution promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. The Visiting Fellow program and Seminars for Leadership Development and for Policy Dialogue are open to postsecondary faculty and other professionals. Sets the Standards of Good Practice for education abroad and sponsors workshops, webinars, and certification in those standards and other aspects of study abroad. Organizes an annual conference in the US and an annual European Conference.

Offers masters degree programs in International Education, TESOL, and other areas related to global involvement, as well as professional development and certificate programs in International Education, foreign languages and cultures, and Language Teacher Certification (TESOL, Best Practices in TESOL, and the International Diploma in Language Teaching Management). Many programs have low-residency options, using distance learning combined with short-term, on-campus attendance requirements.

The WLS Spencer Foundation funds nonprofit organizations that foster new ideas in education, encourage creativity, and disrupt the status quo. One focus is cross-cultural education.

ACLS, the leading private institution supporting scholars in the humanities and related social sciences at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels, awards fellowships which include opportunities for research abroad.

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), the scholar division of the Institute of International Education (IIE), administers the world-renowned Fulbright Scholar Program.

IREX projects in various countries and disciplines focus on providing thought leadership and innovative programs in partnership with local institutions and individuals to promote positive, lasting change globally.

Lists this year's NEH Summer Programs in the Humanities for School and College Educators, which provides stipends of $1,200 to $3,900 help cover expenses for these one- to five-week, tuition-free programs, some of which take place outside the US. The programs cover a variety of humanities topics.
