Art - Research Guide

This guide is designed to help you get started on your Art and Art History research and writing.

How to Use Model Assignments

These model assignments serve as examples of successful vs unsuccessful submissions based on the assignment criteria provided. Successful assignments go beyond checking all of the boxes of required criteria and showcase the writer's original thought and skill. The model assignments below are labeled STRONG and WEAK. Use these examples as a guide and compare and contrast the differences. Note: Model assignments are provided by Professor Matthew Backer and are geared towards ARTS 1301, 1303, and 1304 students.

Writing Tips

  • Develop an interpretation
  • Support your claim/interpretation
  • Avoid generalizing
  • Use proper Art terminology (see your textbook).
    • EX: visual elements and principles of design are examples of art terminology.
